J 0857

Shintô-Imari vase

Vase shaped like a bottle with a long narrow neck over a long and round body.

Light-coloured pottery, like porcelain, with a white transparent glaze.

Curved cartouches on each side in red, violet, green and white with butterflies and a floral decoration.

Ornamental borders in blue at the lower part.

Fine outline sketches in black.

Neck edged with gold on the glaze.

At one side is a large rectangular cartouche with a red inscription: .....shin mae.

Below a landscape with white plum blossoms, a pine tree and bamboo.

At the back side also a landscape sketch with bamboo.

Very pleasant vase, probably made to be used in a Shintoistic temple.

Some smaller irregularities due to the production and very little defects as usual for older objects of the daily use.

Edo/Meiji period, about 1850-70. H 27,5 cm.

With a fitting carved rostrum made of rose wood.
