Ivory Okimono:
Standing Mother-Pig

Unusual okimono of a pregnant pig (Jap. buta).

Carved and polished ivory, with a nice patina.

Skilfully and lifelike worked out head, ears, muscles, teats at the brest and curly tail.

Carved signature at the upper right back leg: Gyokusai (or Gyokusei).

Excellent condition.

Meiji/Taishτ period, c 1900-20.

H c 5 cm, L ca. 9 cm.

Okimono or netsuke in form of a pig are pretty rare!
