Cabinets - Kazari-dana

Cabinet (kazari-dana) with doors, Shibayama style

An elegant, richly decorated and structured cabinet (kazari-dana) made of different darkly stained woods with lacquer and inlaid works in the Shibayama style.

Meiji period, about 1890-1905.

Size: Hight with top section 180 cm (without 163 cm), width 101 cm, depth 30 cm.

Richly decorated high cabinet (kazari-dana) made of darkly stained and lacquered hardwood with fine lacquer and inlaid works in the Shibayama style.

Meiji period, about 1890-1905.

Kimono-chests - Ishô-dansu

Kimono-chest in two parts

Kimono-chest in two parts made out of honey-coloured Kiri-wood (Paulownia). In the upper part with three drawers, beneath a smaller one and two drawers on top of each other. Very nice original wrought-iron mountings with round lock panels and square handles (Kakute style).

Japan, Meiji period (c1890).

Size: H 110 x W 87 x D 41,5 cm.

Red varnished kimono-chest with a bolt
to lock the upper three drawers (Bô-dansu)

One-piece kimono-chest made of Kiri-wood.

With three drawers in the upper part, which can be locked altogether with a bolt. Beneath are two drawers and one smaller door. Skilfully worked out ornamental iron-mountings with lock panels, edge protections, and handles (Kakute style).

A very decorative and valuable collector's item with nice wood grain and splendid iron-mountings.

Japan, Meiji period (1868 - 1912).

Charcoal brazier - Hibachi

Kyôtô-Hibachi - daiwa-hibachi



Rectangular Hibachi made of dark, fine grained chestnut wood (kuri) with a thick edge, which juts out. At the front several small drawers decorated with persimmon wood (D. kaki). New copper inset.

Meiji, c1880
